Photographer based in Seoul. Two ongoing series: BEING (2023– ) and SILENCE (2020– ).

BEING

2023– ongoing

BEING is made by spending a finite material. A flower is placed before a sheet of expired 8×10 colour film and the shutter is left open for one to ten days. In that time the flower declines and the emulsion, already past its life, collapses. The colour shifts and density failures are not corrected; they are the only event this work records.

The film was left unused by a photographer. He was my father.

There were thirty-four sheets. Twenty-eight are spent. Six remain. This work will end not when I decide to stop, but when the material runs out.

SILENCE

2020– ongoing

Water moves without rest. Watched long enough, it settles into a single plane. I wanted to see, there, something that does not change.

Was the stillness I saw in the world, or was it the gaze I placed there? I build a form in order to ask. I do not yet know the answer.
